1st XIGareth WilliamsonCaptain and Batsman Mohamad BobatVice Captain and Batsman BTCC A good win on Saturday for the 1st XI against Shepshed Messengers. Shepshed had first use of the pitch at Nottingham Rd and in cloudy conditions after morning rain started cautiously against some probing bowling by Tim Wise and Colin Griggs. Wise was first to stike finding the left handers edge and keeper Rahul Avatar doing the rest. From then on it was a procession as the visitors could not deal with leg spinner Umar Afzal who grabbed 6 for 39. Umar was backed up by Wise with 2 for 29 and Griggs with 2 for 26 as Messengers were all out for 124. In reply Mark Burchett and Rishi Patel set about knocking off the runs. Burchett played some nice shots before skying a catch and departing for 14. Karl Fourie then joined Patel and they played some fine shots in getting Barrow to the winning total. Fourie continued his excellent run of form with 62 Not Out and left hander Patel made a stylish 39 Not Out to see Barrow to maximium points. Skipper Gareth Williamson and his team now look to the Cup on Tuesday evening and a match against Ibstock Town at home with a 6pm start.
