Barrow’s total of 145 was a result of some fine batting from Ollie, George F and Francis, with George S and Aiden scampering vital runs in the last two overs, aided by some wide and wayward bowling from Sileby. George hit some lusty blows (one six over midwicket), Ollie nudged and nurddled, punishing the bad ball and Francis hit a couple of fine cover drives (both George and Ollie deserving their standing ovations upon retirement). 145 seemed to knock the stuffing out of Sileby. However, they set about their run chase at 8 runs an over, with some flashing edges finding the boundary on a fast outfield, and some sloppy fielding gifting more runs. The Sileby opener then got his eye-in and retired on 25, scoring 5 boundaries. Sam fielded well and threw to run out the other Sileby opener. Barrow’s fielding then picked up, and some inspirational stops by David and Callum lifted the spirits. Francis came on in the 11th over and bowled a tidy spell, picking up two wickets (one a good catch by David) and not going for many. Ollie took the pace off the ball at the other end, and put a halt to the Sileby run scoring sufficiently to make a target of 14 off the last over too much of an ask. Some lessons were learned in the field about concentration and application of the ground fielding skills. A few too many wides were conceded, but in the end the Barrow Town team organised themselves well enough to defend a good batting total. Thanks to Karina for providing a well presented scorebook, and scoring for both teams and to Will Hebblethwaite for covering as 12th man, and keeping the scoreboard up-to-date.. 4 This website was created using MAGIX Website Maker You will need the current version of Adobe Flash Player to view it.
