Barrownesses back with a bang!

Barrownesses back with a bang!

Caroline Cooper18 Nov 2023 - 11:05

The Barrownesses were back in action for the start of the Women’s Indoor Softball Cricket League at King’s School, playing two matches back-to-back.

The Barrownesses faced Kingsley Comets first, a very strong team. Amanda and Miriam opened the batting and got off to a flying start. There was strong batting all round from Ava, Becky, Caroline, and Lisa, with some huge knocks up to the ceiling and the boundaries.

Bowling and fielding were accurate all round, restricted Kingsley and kept the scores close. There was impressive fielding on the boundaries, lots of stops. Despite coming fresh from a massage, Becky put on a fabulous bowling performance. Finally, Lisa took an incredible wicket on her last ball in the last over.

The game ended with Kinglsey on 286 and Barrow on 270.

In the next game Barrow faced the Buckley Blues. They won the toss and chose to bat first, racking up an impressive 280 runs.

Barrow were unlucky to lose a few wickets, as the running was bold and positive from everyone. Liz swapped for Lisa in this game and put some decent runs on the board. Caroline also nearly got a ball straight through one of the basketball hoops!

Ava, Becky, Amanda, and Caroline bowled fantastically in the second game. Fielding all round was excellent. Two of the Buckley ladies were run out by Ava and Miriam respectively.

Going into the final over, Buckley needed just 7 to win, with Ava up to bowl. Ultimately, Barrow just couldn’t quite clinch it, despite Ava restricting them with her bowling and taking a wicket on the final ball of the game. The score ended with Barrow on 280 and Buckley on 288. Literal blood and sweat (but no tears) went into both games. The ladies all played superbly and had a lot of fun as well.

The ladies (after recovering from their bruises) are back in action on the 1st of December, when they will face Boughton Hall.
