The 1st team ventured across the county to play a strong Hawk Green team on a beautiful early summers day on the edge of the Peak District.

Captain Hughes lost the toss and Hawk Green decided to bat. Holloway and Williams opened the bowling and despite an early wicket and plenty of play and misses runs started to come quickly on the notoriously fast scoring ground.

Mumford entered the attack with his left arm spin and settled in quickly getting the vital wicket of Hawk Green's no.3 Young. However the runs kept coming and at drinks Barrow looked like they might be in for a tough day with the score on 130-2 from 25 overs. With Mumford bowling well but the seamers struggling to contain Hughes brought himself into the attack and the 2 left arm spinners started to reduce the run rate. As Hawk Green tried to step on the accelerator wickets started to fall and despite a small flurry at the end Hawk Green ended on 244-7, Mumford ending with a very well bowled 4/39. A good score, but not the 300 they looked like getting at one stage.

Hughes and Randle opened up for Barrow knowing a good start was key if there was to be any chance of chasing down the target and provided a solid platform until Hughes was bowled for 23 with the score on 45. This brought Paske to the crease and he and Randle moved the score to 85 before Paske chipped the ball to extra cover. Morrison fell soon after and the game was in the balance at 90/3 from 27 overs.

This brought Parks to the crease fresh from his 100 the previous week and he immediately looked to be positive whilst Randle played the support role beautifully. Together they started to increase the run rate and took the score to 170 from 39 overs before Randle who was batting with a runner after injuring his hamstring was run out. This meant Allen joined Parks at the crease and the latter started to increase his aggression with multiple boundaries as he brought up his 50 soon after. With 70 needed in the last 10 overs and 6 wickets remaining the game was in the balance, but Parks and Allen both batted beautifully to keep up with the rate without taking too many risks leading to 18 being needed off the last 18 balls.

Parks decided to take things into his own hands and hit the next 3 balls for 6 4 6 meaning 2 runs were now required with Parks himself moving onto 95. The 90s can sometimes be a nervy time for batsmen, but not on this occasion as Parks smashed the next ball for 6 to win the game and secure a memorable100 in the process, a fitting landmark for what had been a wonderful match winning inning. Great credit also goes to Allen who played the perfect support role in the last few overs.

So a magnificent chase by Barrow saw them win by 6 wickets against a good Hawk Green team as the batting and team spirit continued to shine. This leaves the team well placed in 3rd spot after 4 games and confident is high going into next week's local derby against Tattenhall.
